(Yahoo!) - You've got to hand it to John Mayer. He and his marketing team are friggin' geniuses. Rather than just release a lyric video with some groovy background designs for his new single, "Paper Doll," they've enlisted viral Internet sensation Joanna Rohrback, the woman behind the "Prancercize" fad, who does her thing to Mayer's new tune as the lyrics scroll.
If that wasn't enough of a pop culture convergence to make your head explode, get this: The song appears to be about Mayer's one-time girlfriend Taylor Swift, with the chorus, "You're like 22 girls in one / And none of them know what they're running from / Was it just too far to fall / For a little paper doll."
The song also references a "dress of gold and blue," like the one Taylor wore when she made a 2009 appearance on "The View," back when she and Mayer were still dating.
Of course, Taylor's latest single from her multi-platinum Red album is "22." That song opens with the lyrics, "It feels like a perfect night / To dress up like hipsters / And make fun of our exes." Later in the chorus, T-Swizzle croons, "Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing / Like we're 22."
Remember that the Swift-Mayer lyrical spat has been going on at least since 2010, when Taylor released "Dear John" on her album Speak Now. That song, which reportedly "humiliated" Mayer, contains the lyrics, "Dear John / I see it all now that you're gone / Don't you think I was too young / To be messed with / The girl in the dress / Cried the whole way home / I should've known."
