GWAR frontman Dave Brockie died of a heroin overdose.  WTVR broke the news from the Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office.

Brockie, known to fans as Oderus Urungus, died on March 23 at the age of 50.

The official word from the medical examiner's office was "acute heroin toxicity."  That means it was an accidental overdose.

GWAR formed in Richmond, Virginia back in 1984.  They became known for their elaborate costumes and graphic stage shows.  Over the years, they released 13 albums including 2013's Battle Maximus.
