57% of US Workers Have Less Than $25K in Savings

(NEWSER– The Wall Street Journal points to a double-whammy in terms of retirement savings: People aren't saving enough, and they're living longer. Among the depressing nuggets from a new survey by the Employee Benefit Research Institute:

  • 28% of Americans don't think they'll be able to retire comfortably, the highest percentage since the EBRI began such surveys 23 years ago.
  • 57% of workers have less than $25,000 in household savings and investments, not including their homes. That's up from 49% in 2008.
