Work has "officially" begun on the next Smashing Pumpkins album. Frontman Billy Corgan sent out a tweet telling his followers that Monday was the "1st official day of writing" for the band's follow-up to last year's "Oceania."
Excited to announce today's our 1st official day of writing for new SP album. Wish us luck!— Billy Corgan (@Billy) March 25, 2013
Corgan previously told "Billboard" that he had already started work on the new album, but more than half a year has passed since then. At that time, Corgan said the band's next release was shaping up to be "more of a rockin' affair," but only time will tell if that theory holds true.
Corgan also said he thought the Pumpkins may be able to put the album in stores before the end of the year, but that seems especially ambitious given the group's summer touring plans. They start another trip around the world on April 29th with a show in Melbourne, Florida.
