Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III told reporters on Wednesday that head coach Mike Shanahan has shut him down for the season.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that backup quarterback Kirk Cousins would get the start in Sunday's game.  Later, it was reported that Griffin would be inactive and that Rex Grossman would serve as Cousins' backup.

Then, at a press conference involving Griffin, Cousins, and Shanahan, the second year man out of Baylor let reporters know that he was done for the year.

In the same press conference, Shanahan said, "What I’m trying to do is be as honest as I can. And I don’t normally do that."  He also admitted that he probably should have not let Griffin play against Seattle in last season's playoffs.  Read more Shanahan quotes here.
