'Who's The Boss?' Star Katherine Helmond Dead At 89

Katherine Helmond has died at the age of 89.

The tony-award winning actress, best known for her roles on "Who's the Boss?" and "Soap," passed away on February 23 at her home in Los Angeles following complications with Alzheimer's Disease, APA reports.

Katherine's career took off after she played Jessica Tate on the '70s soap opera sitcom, "Soap," starring alongside Billy Crystal and Robert Guillaume. The role earned her four Emmy nominations and led to her next big role as Mona Robinson on "Who's the Boss?" where she starred opposite of Tony Danza, Judith Light and Alyssa Milano. Katherine additionally earned two more Emmy noms for that character.

Tony remembered his former co-star, who he called his "soulmate," on Friday (March 1), telling Deadline, "I was in love with her."

"She was such an influence on me," he continued. "From being a single guy with a hit show in Hollywood, though my marriage and having kids — she was with me. No [matter] what problem I had, I could go to her. Very few people could match her. I’ll miss her so terribly." Remembering their early days on "Who’s the Boss?" Tony added: "We luckily got Jessica from "Soap." Oh my God, we hit the lottery. She was a consummate professional — never made a mistake and always got the laugh. She was the sexy older lady who could keep up with the young people. She just had a way about her."

Katherine is survived by her husband of 57 years, David Christian.

A memorial service to celebrate the late actress' life is being planned by her friends and family, Deadline reports
