The Orioles have named Dylan Bundy their Opening Day starting pitcher for the 2018 regular season. The 25-year old has long been touted as one of the league's top-rated pitchers and is poised to have a breakout year in his third full season in the majors. He proved himself last year, going 13-9 in a tough season for the O's.
"I wasn't really expecting it or thinking it, really. I was trying to get through Spring Training and work on the stuff I need to work on, and let things play out however they may be. So I wasn't expecting it, but definitely humbled by it," Bundy said after hearing the news.
Last year, Kevin Gausman took the mound on Opening Day in a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. The three seasons prior, Chris Tillman was the team's Opening Day starter. Bundy hopes to lead the O's to their 8th-straight win on Opening Day when the team hosts the Minnesota Twins next Thursday, March 29th at 3:05 PM.
