Earthquake Reported in Maryland Friday Afternoon, Epicenter in Woodlawn

According to the USGS, a small earthquake occurred in Maryland today. The quake registered at a 2.6 on the Richter scale - described as a "Minor" earthquake felt slightly by some people and causing no damage to buildings.

Earthquakes at at least a 3.0 on the scale are ones that can be felt by people and cause some small shaking of objects.

The epicenter was noted to be about 1km from Woodlawn, Maryland near Baltimore City.

Earthquakes happen quite frequently around the globe but are considered uncommon, at least on a destructive scale, in our region. At least 76 earthquakes were measured by the USGS to have happened on Friday alone.
