Red Sox Pitcher Suspended for Throwing at Manny Machado's Head

Boston Red Sox Pitcher Matt Barnes has been suspended for four games for throwing a pitch that nearly hit Orioles third-baseman Manny Machado in the head during Sunday's game.

Barnes was tossed from the game after the pitch, which was deemed intentional. Machado injured Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia on a slide on Friday's game. Pedroia stated after the game that he did not believe Machado tried to intentionally injure him.

In the Red Sox's defense, Machado has had issues with his temper in the past. In 2014, Machado was involved in a few altercations with the Oakland Athletics after a hard tag. Last season, Machado charged the mound after Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura drilled Machado in the back with a 99-mph fastball.

Moments after the pitch, Pedroia and Machado could be seen conversing. Pedroia appears to say, "That wasn't me. I know that and you know that."
