Yes, Manny Machado is still an Oriole. And in another somewhat surprising move, Manny is moving from playing third base to shortstop for the 2018 season.
When Machado was originally drafted by the Orioles he was a shortstop and played there in the minor leagues. When he made it to the big leagues back in 2012, J.J. Hardy was firmly entrenched at the shortstop position. So Manny ended up playing third and became one of the best in the league at that position.
Now that Hardy is gone, Machado takes over. Tim Beckham was signed to the team last season due to the injuries piling up on the aging Hardy and played most of his 60 games at shortstop. Beckham will probably be the everyday third baseman for the O's in 2018.
Machado started 49 games at shortstop in 2017 mostly before Beckham joined the team in August 2017.
