Popular Baltimore Cookie Shop Closed Due to Rat Infestation

Insomnia Cookies on Charles Street in Federal Hill has been closed by the Baltimore City Health Department due to a rat infestation. The cookie shop was ordered to close on Friday and a date for reopening has not yet been approved by the Health Department at the time of this writing.

After the news broke, people commented on the news, saying, "That store was never particularly dirty or anything," and "I have never seen this store look the slightest bit of dirty."

But a few people believe that the rat infestation could be caused by nearby construction at Cross Street Market, which potentially displaced rats who found a new home at Insomnia.

Insomnia Cookie's closure is the 20th by the Health Department in 2019 over rodent and/or insect infestations. The Dunkin Donuts in Mount Vernon, the Hip Hop Fish and Chicken near Carrollton Ridge, and Ledo's Pizza near Johns Hopkins University are three other establishments that have had rodent issues this year. All three were cleared to reopen within a week of their violations.
