The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly agreed to a trade sending veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans in exchange for guard Kenyon Green, ESPN's Adam Schefter and DJ Bien-Aime reported on Tuesday (March 11).
"Another Texans trade: Houston is acquiring veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Eagles in exchange for former first-round pick Kenyon Green, per @Djbienaime and me. Trade includes a pick swap with the Eagles getting a 2026 5th-round pick and the Texans getting a 2026 6th," Schefter wrote on his X account.
Gardner-Johnson, 27, started in 16 regular season and all four postseason games during the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX run. The former University of Florida standout had previously spent the 2022 season in Philadelphia before signing with the Detroit Lions in 2023, but was limited to just two starts and three appearances with the franchise.
The decision to trade Gardner-Johnson came days after the Eagles released veteran starting cornerback Darius Slay. Slay, 34, a six-time Pro Bowler, started in 14 games for the Eagles during the regular season, as well as all four games in the postseason.
The Eagles are also transitioning at cornerback following breakout rookie seasons from first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell and second-round pick Cooper DeJean, who recorded an interception for a touchdown during Super Bowl LIX.
