Psych Me Out is a grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Black community by inspiring individuals to prioritize their mental well-being. We do this through engaging speaking events, interactive workshops, trainings, personalized consultations, and dynamic community gatherings. Founded by Dr. Alexis Ferguson (Dr. Lex) and Dr. Garrick Beauliere (Dr. G), two Black millennial psychologists, our work is fueled by both professional expertise and lived experience. While we are licensed psychologists, Psych Me Out channels its expertise into education, empowerment, and community connection rather than clinical services like therapy. Based in New Jersey, with roots extending to New York and the DMV metropolitan area, we recognize the urgent need for accessible mental health resources, especially given the shortage of Black psychologists and the disproportionate impact of mental illness on Black communities. Psych Me Out exists to bridge that gap by making mental health knowledge and tools both available and relatable.
Dr. Garrick I. Beauliere is a 31-year-old Haitian-American licensed clinical psychologist with experience at child guidance clinics, inpatient forensic psychiatric hospitals, Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, and private practices. He published his dissertation that assessed vicarious trauma in Black Americans who have not experienced police violence. In addition to his clinical work, he is the immediate past president of the DC chapter of The Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi). As a graduate student, he was on The ABPsi Student National Board as the Eastern Graduate Representative and Membership Chair. In 2023, Dr. Beauliere was selected as one of the McDonald’s Black and Positively Golden Change Leaders and was recognized on stage at the 2023 BET Awards for the impact he has made in the Black community as a mental health expert. He was also featured on BET’s website and YouTube highlighting his work in the mental health field then interviewed by Revolt TV for “revolutionizing mental health advocacy in the Black community.” Dr. Beauliere has been invited by various organizations, such as AfroTech, The Congressional Black Caucus, Live Nation, REVOLT World, radio stations, and universities, to share his expertise on mental health. In the beginning of 2025, he was invited by the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Suicide Prevention to share his expertise on suicide in the Black community and they spotlighted him as a trailblazing community leader.
Dr. Alexis N. Ferguson earned her PsyD in School & Clinical Child Psychology from Pace University. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in New Jersey and in New York. She has clinical experience in a wide variety of settings including schools, prisons, private practices, community mental health centers, and hospitals. She has worked with individuals of all ages and with a range of presenting problems, though she specializes in mood disorders, learning disorders, trauma, and mental health in BIPOC. She continues to do research on the risk and resiliency in vulnerable populations in adults and has published research on how self-view relates to trauma. Dr. Ferguson now works as a professor at Pace University and provides neuropsychological assessment in private practice. She serves on numerous committees at her alma mater and is on the executive board of the New Jersey chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists. In addition, she is a member of the American Psychological Association as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. In addition to her work with Psych Me Out, she has served on a variety of panel discussions, hosted workshops for local organizations, as is a mentor to future psychologists.
