Courtney Cacation, Executive Director of the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau, gives us the inside scoop on everything there is to do and experience when visiting Charlottesville. Home to over 40 wineries (and counting!) there is a wine-tasting "passport" program which is a great way to enjoy Virginia's best wine and take in the beautiful landscapes in Charlottesville. Speaking of landscapes, Charlottesville is an outdoorsman's paradise with close proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains and situated on both the James River & Rivanna River, there's plenty to get into whether it be kayaking, rafting, or hiking! Courtney joined the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau as the Executive Director in August 2019. She has a passion for community-driven, collaborative, impactful destination marketing and management. Prior to coming to Charlottesville, Courtney served as the Executive Director for Discover Bristol in Bristol TN/VA, and the Marketing Director for Arlington, VA. She is a frequent guest lecturer at George Washington University, where she earned her Master’s in Tourism Administration in 2010 and was recognized by Beta Gamma Sigma for her academic achievements. She has won the GWU MTA Alumni Award for Social Impact for Discover Black Cville, along with the US Travel Association’s Destiny Award and two HSMAI Bronze Adrian Awards.
